Overview
Hashempur is the last of the eastern Free Cities and the end of the eastern trade, the market where the goods of the east, and the people, change hands before they go anywhere else. Its markets are the largest of the eastern cities and its slave markets the largest of all; the great merchant houses of Hashempur built their fortunes on that trade and have never apologized for it. Its trading consortium reaches across the Continent, its syndicates have been known to try to corner a market or two, and its karthaav is heralded by a string of titles that runs longer than most kings'.
Hashempur bears the crescent moon. The founding house that gave the city its name lost the seat long ago, by means the city does not discuss, and Hashempur is ruled in the present age by Mansa Adin of House Adin: Lord of the Golden Markets, Master of the Eastern Trade, Blessed of the Sun and Moon, Keeper of the Sacred Scales. He is a small man draped in cloth-of-gold, rings on every finger, who occupies a room as though he were enormous and calculates in a language his rivals cannot read.
